70° Anniversary of Cinecittą's opening
![]() April 2007 marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of Cinecitta' in Rome, the biggest film studio in Europe. Find out more online: - Mussolini places the cornerstone of Cinecittą: 29th of January 1936 - Ceremony of the opening of the film studio: 28th of April 1937 - 'Scipione l'Africano', directed by Carmine Gallone, is the first film realized in Cinecittą - During Second World War bombings Cinecitta's became a shelter for homeless people - Starting from 1937 until today more of 3.000 films have been shooted in Cinecittą; the big and suggestive cinematographic sets have signed the cinema history: from the oldes 'Quo vadis', 'Ben Hur', 'Cleopatra' to the recents 'Gangs of New York' and 'The Passion'.
