 November 4th 1966 - 40th Anniversary of the flood that ravaged Florence






Ponte Vecchio at risk, Piazza Santa Croce after the disaster, the Mud Angels, desolation and the rescue operation witnesses the tragedy that hit centuries of Art and History.

Alinari Archives provide 400 photographs to document this tragic calamity and to remember all those who helped the city of Florence in the enormous rescue operation. Click here to view the images.

Alinari Archives are also pleased to inform you that the 0fficial Italian Fire Brigade photographic Archive (Ministero dell'Interno, Dipartimento Vigili del Fuoco del Soc.Publ. e Difesa Civile) is now available on-line. An increasing found of impressive images representing the rescue aspects of the most significant disasters occurred in Italy in the last fifty years, ranging from earthquakes, gas explosions, car and air crashes, landslides and of course the flood in Florence.
