AT MIDNIGHT FREEDOM - INDIA AND ITS INDEPENDENCE

On 14th of August 1947, at midnight, India obtained its independence from the British Empire.

The British domination on India begun on 1876 and lasted for nearly two centuries, until Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi started his activity and became the true symbol of the Indian non-violent fight for freedom. Getting rid of the British colonialism, India became a great nation with a strong and unique cultural identity.

ALINARI Archives are glad to present a selection of beautiful vintage and contemporaries images about India (historical events and personalities, art works and monuments, reportage on places and traditions).
